1863 - Foundation of the Thun ammunition factory by the Swiss government

Start of ammunition production in Thun and development of the expertise that forms the basis for SWISS P.
1896 - Start of the "Eidgenössische Munitionsfabrik Altdorf:

A second production facility is opened to meet the increasing demand for ammunition.
1940s-1950s - Expansion and modernization of the production facilities:

Expansion and technological innovation in the production of small caliber ammunition to support the growing Law Enforcement and military markets.
1995 - Merger of the Thun and Altdorf ammunition factories to form the Swiss Ammunition Factory (SM):

Centralization of resources and creation of a modern, uniform production basis for high efficiency.
1998 - Takeover by RUAG:

Integration into the RUAG Group and expansion of the product range for international markets.
2002 - Renamed RUAG Ammotec:

Expansion of the range to include civilian and professional applications and focus on innovation in ammunition development.
2022 - Takeover by Beretta Holding and realignment as SWISS P Defence:

Return to Swiss roots and focus on premium ammunition for Armed Forces, Law Enforcement and sport shooters worldwide.
